smokingAccording to the World Health Organization more than half billion young people are being targeted by the tobacco companies as they associating smoking to glamorous and attractive lifestyles.

The World Health Organization explains that tobacco companies are just cashing the innocence of young people who are greatly influenced by attractive advertising and have begun to reckon smoking a must for an elegant lifestyle. W.H.O is going to mark World No Tobacco Day on Saturday.

Shigeru Omi, W.H.O’s regional director for the Western Pacific states that there is a flood of messages through billboards, newspaper, radio and television ads and all of them intend to befool young people to try their first cigarette.

Advertising of the tobacco at an excessive level presents smoking as a normal activity and makes difficult for young people to understand that it leads towards death.

The World Health Organization stressed policy-makers to favor a total ban on the advertisement of tobacco as well as sponsorship and promotion of it. It has been set in the WHO Framework Convention on tobacco control that is a worldwide tobacco control agreement.

It has been stated that many researches suggest that only total bans can do well as limited bans permit tobacco companies to switch their resources to some other promoting procedures.

Shigeru further adds that currently tobacco industries are focusing on young females and it has emerged as the biggest challenge to deal with.
