Kidney dysfunction leads women to a risk of sudden cardiac death
UESDAY, April 8 (HealthDay News) — Malfunctioning kidneys can cause a higher risk of sudden cardiac death in older women a U.S. study suggests.
Researchers’ studied; cases of 2,760 postmenopausal women with an average age of 67 and with a background of some heart disease even less serious, unidentified kidney function imperfections increased the risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD).They found the risk of SCD was 3.16 times higher in women with higher kidney dysfunction than in those with normal kidney function.
This increased risk was apparent after the researchers controlled for several basic risk factors including heart failure, age, smoking, heart rate and level of HDL.
Out Of the 135 women who suffered SCD over 6.8 years, 36 (3.5 percent) had normal kidney function, 69 (4.6 percent) had fair kidney dysfunction, and 30 (13 percent) had higher kidney dysfunction.
