Colorectal cancer is spreading in blacks more rapidly than in the white race, a new report says, and experts reveal the truth that blacks have the least screening rates and poor quality of medical care.

A death rate in blacks due to colon or rectal cancer is almost 50 percent higher than in whites, according to American Cancer Society research.

The gap has started to expand since the mid 70s. At that time, death rate, attributable to colon cancer was almost equal in both racial groups.

“We have seen a massive progress in whites. We could be seeing the same progress in blacks, if we could overcome discrepancies in access to health care,” said Elizabeth Ward.

Colorectal cancer is on the third position in killing people of U.S.A. According to estimation 50,000 Americans will die because of colorectal cancer this year. The diagnoses rate in blacks was higher than 19 percent than whites in 2005.

The death rate among the blacks was about 25 deaths out of 100,000 colon and rectum cancer as compared to 17 per 100,000 in whites, which shows a difference of 48 percent.

Researchers say it’s still ambiguous, why mortality of black population jumped in the 1980s, but the gap between blacks and whites continued to widen even after the come back of blacks from disease.

Colorectal cancer is a preventable disease through early diagnosis and quality medical care. The screening rate for whites is 50 percent where as, just 40 percent blacks go for it.
