Cloned Embryonic Stem Cells Cure Parkinson’s Disease

Washington –With the help of cloned embryonic stem cells, researchers cured the Parkinson’s disease in mice. They told that cloned cells worked effectively than ordinary cells. The scientists were working hard to establish that it is possible to create embryonic stem cells using cloning technique and it can be employed in providing a suitable treatment for Parkinson’s disease. The researchers found that stem cells cloned from a mouse’s own body were less troublesome to its body than cloned cells taken from other mice. The research proves that this technique could be helpful one day for people suffering from this disease.

“It confirmed what we alleged all along — that cloned embryonic stem cells performs better,” said Viviane Tabar of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York.

In Parkinson’s disease, the nerve cells in brain which controls muscle movement either die or become weakened. The mice which were given the mismatched brain cells performed less effectively than the mice given cells from their own clones, said the researchers.

cloned cells to cure Parkinson’s Disease

“This is a remarkable achievement, and for the first time, we are trying to prove that it is possible to cure a Parkinson’s disease using a person’s own embryonic stem cells,” said Dr Kieran Breen of Parkinson’s Disease Society.

With the help of chemicals, Viviane Tabar and his team initially developed a Parkinson’s-like disease in mice to destroy their brain cells.

They took normal cells from the tails of the mice, and insert the nuclei of the normal cells into nuclei removed eggs cells of the mouse, and clones of the mice. This process is known as therapeutic cloning or somatic cell nuclear transfer.Stem cell researchers firmly believe that cloning technology might provide a better opportunity for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Researchers develop these cloned embryos for harvesting their stem cells. They develop these stem cells in the lab and coaxed them into becoming dopaminergic brains cells that are lost in Parkinson’s disease. These stem cells were introduced into the brains of the injured mice. The mice show significant sign of importance, Tabar said.

The mice did not recover when these neurons were inserted into mice that did not match the genes of the transplanted cells. The researchers say that therapy is hopeful as the cells itself is taken from the sick animal and eventually these cells will not be rejected by its immune system.

None has achieved this before.”It’s extremely difficult and it implies a number of inefficient steps,” said Tabar.Still, most of the people are showing their opposition against cloning technique to create human embryos or in making human embryonic stem cells, for this purpose.More over it is also hard to get human egg cells.
