New Zealand Teen Convicted Over Global Cyber-Crime Ring

WELLINGTON – A New Zealand youngster was found guilty on Tuesday for playing a crucial role in a universal cyber-crime ring which affected almost 1.3 million computers worldwide that had resulted losses of millions of dollars.
Owen Thor Walker, 18, supposedly led a group of hackers globally, who used his programmes to access personal data, dispatched viruses around the world and committed many cyber crimes, causing losses of around $20 million, said the police.
The court in Thames, which is located near the south of Auckland, declared him as guilty in six cyber crimes and ordered to reappear on May 28 for sentencing.
