A “tipping point” seems to have arrived now and “Wi-Fi” technology services are about to enter in to a “free zone”. It is almost eight years now that the technology has enabled to create specific “Wi-Fi Hot Spots” and their popularity is growing exponentially. Companies are making new strategies to monetize the concept in more creative ways.

Wi-Fi Hot Spots

A new phase of “Free-Zone” is all set to launch and this will replace the existing $20 a month rental model with a completely “rent for Free” model. Companies would soon be offering “Wi-Fi” services for no cost and it is expected that such approach will motivate customers for buying goods and services.

Companies like “Starbucks” have now decided to make a transition from its present “Wi-Fi for money” approach to the “Wi-Fi for free” and expects to lure its customers and other people to shell out more money on other goods as well.

EricssonFor the first time, the Ericsson’s technology would be finding a place with a laptop this year. Ericsson has entered in to a partnership with the Lenovo in order to facilitate the laptop users with a ‘DSL-like experience’. Lenovo, the PC maker’s ‘ThinkPad Notebook’ computers will now have an embedded HSPA mobile broadband module enhancing the user applicability of the machine.

HSPA, the ‘High Speed Packet Access, is a typical ‘high-speed cellular technology ‘that is capable of enhancing the peak download rates up to 14 Mbps. With this technology, at the same time, the peak upload rates could also be enhanced up to 2 Mbps. In technology realm, it is also known as the ‘High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).

HSPA

Looking to the increasing trends towards the uploading rate among the users, Ericsson went on to make a differentiation with the ‘HSDPA ‘and preferred this as HSPA only. The reason behind this shift, the company says, it was necessary as the “uplink is becoming just as important as the downlink”. Now days, people are more inclined to upload loads of information from their own computers to various servers and this is approaching fast to reach up to an almost equal level with the downloading.

The term ‘Robot‘ was originally coined during a play by the name of R.U.R or Rossum’s Universal Robots in 1921. The term ‘Robot’ is derived from the Czech word ‘Robota‘ which means forced labor. The play, written by Karel Capek, was an astounding success when it first opened in the United States, fueling the interest in robots and robotics.

Today’s definitions of a Robot are somewhat different. The Robot Institute of America defines a robot as a reprogrammable and multifunctional manipulator that has been designed to move tools, parts, materials and other specialized devises through programmed motions in order to perform a variety of tasks. The Webster Dictionary has defined a robot as an automatic device that is capable of performing the functions a human would typically perform, or a machine that takes the form of a human.

Web Trends

The latest web trends must be at the finger tips of the web developers. Otherwise how would they remain at par with other equally sharp minds which are vying for a share in the internet pie? The only way to be sure that their finger is on the right button, they have to rely on the available market statistics regarding the common browsers, their display resolutions and the most common operating systems which are in use the world over.

But before we jump into muddy cesspool of statistical data, here is a word of caution. It is said that lies are of three types: lies, white lies and statistics! I am in no way insinuating that statisticians are liars. What they provide in the form of tables and charts of data collected from reasonably reliable sources are all true and factually correct. What is debatable is the interpretation of that data.
