Wi-Fi: Making a Shift to Free
Written by admin on February 16, 2008 under News, Technology | 1 comment
A “tipping point” seems to have arrived now and “Wi-Fi” technology services are about to enter in to a “free zone”. It is almost eight years now that the technology has enabled to create specific “Wi-Fi Hot Spots” and their popularity is growing exponentially. Companies are making new strategies to monetize the concept in more creative ways.
A new phase of “Free-Zone” is all set to launch and this will replace the existing $20 a month rental model with a completely “rent for Free” model. Companies would soon be offering “Wi-Fi” services for no cost and it is expected that such approach will motivate customers for buying goods and services.
Companies like “Starbucks” have now decided to make a transition from its present “Wi-Fi for money” approach to the “Wi-Fi for free” and expects to lure its customers and other people to shell out more money on other goods as well.

Bluetooth technology is about to enter in a new future zone of innovation. Transmission related innovations will be associated with this technology. Presence of “Wi-Fi” networks will further facilitate the Bluetooth technology and it will soon be possible to enhance the throughput for transmission. It will be much faster to push” videos, music and other high band applications”, says the Bluetooth Development group.
According to many technology experts and Ander Edlund, the European marketing director of the Bluetooth Special Interest group, this Bluetooth technology will enter in to a new phase in combination with the neighboring “Wi-Fi” networks very soon. It will not take more than a year to set all necessary requirements for this within this one year’s period. Bluetooth connections will be linked with the nearby “Wi-Fi” networks in all nearby areas.
Bluetooth technology is currently running with its “version 2.1”, “so it might be in version 3”, according to Edur Edlund.

For the first time, the Ericsson’s technology would be finding a place with a laptop this year. Ericsson has entered in to a partnership with the Lenovo in order to facilitate the laptop users with a ‘DSL-like experience’. Lenovo, the PC maker’s ‘ThinkPad Notebook’ computers will now have an embedded HSPA mobile broadband module enhancing the user applicability of the machine.
HSPA, the ‘High Speed Packet Access, is a typical ‘high-speed cellular technology ‘that is capable of enhancing the peak download rates up to 14 Mbps. With this technology, at the same time, the peak upload rates could also be enhanced up to 2 Mbps. In technology realm, it is also known as the ‘High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).
Looking to the increasing trends towards the uploading rate among the users, Ericsson went on to make a differentiation with the ‘HSDPA ‘and preferred this as HSPA only. The reason behind this shift, the company says, it was necessary as the “uplink is becoming just as important as the downlink”. Now days, people are more inclined to upload loads of information from their own computers to various servers and this is approaching fast to reach up to an almost equal level with the downloading.

Web Trends
The latest web trends must be at the finger tips of the web developers. Otherwise how would they remain at par with other equally sharp minds which are vying for a share in the internet pie? The only way to be sure that their finger is on the right button, they have to rely on the available market statistics regarding the common browsers, their display resolutions and the most common operating systems which are in use the world over.
But before we jump into muddy cesspool of statistical data, here is a word of caution. It is said that lies are of three types: lies, white lies and statistics! I am in no way insinuating that statisticians are liars. What they provide in the form of tables and charts of data collected from reasonably reliable sources are all true and factually correct. What is debatable is the interpretation of that data.
